Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 15 May 2026 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A real-time procedure was executed on May 14 to uplink a flight software patch that updates the Aspect Camera Assembly Processor Electronics Assembly to address several issues related to the processing of CCD pixel values.

A Chandra image release was issued on May 12 describing observations of Abell 2029 from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory that suggest an event-filled past for the galaxy cluster. The X-rays reveal evidence for a collision with a smaller cluster about four billion years ago. A sloshing spiral structure was formed when the smaller cluster made its first pass through Abell 2029, pulling its gas sideways. Galaxy clusters are the largest structures in the Universe held together by gravity and are bellwethers for cosmic growth. For details see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2026/a2029/

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of TDE2023mfm, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Apr 21.
