Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 12 September 2025 9.00am EDT

During the last week the observing schedule was replanned to incorporate an observation of AT 2025vjw, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Target of Opportunity on Sep 6. Loads for the replanned schedule were uplinked on Sep 9. Observations that were impacted by the replan will be rescheduled in a future week.

A real-time procedure was executed on Sep 8 to uplink a flight software patch that updates the Objective Transmission Grating control software to allow for a ground-commanded move duration. This reduces risk and simplifies operations. Additional real-time procedures were executed on Sep 9-11 to dump OBC-A and -B memory as a follow-up to the patch. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory images maintained on the ground.

A Chandra press release was issued on Sep 10 highlighting that the 2025 Klumpke-Roberts Award has been given to Dr. Kimberly Arcand for her contributions to the public understanding and appreciation of astronomy as a popular science communicator. Arcand’s extraordinary contribution as the visualization scientist and emerging technology lead for the Chandra X-ray Center has played an essential role in bringing Chandra's discoveries to the world in a way that is both accessible and inspiring.
