Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 29 July 2022 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A Chandra image release was issued on Jul 25 describing Chandra observations of Zeta Ophiuchi, a single star that likely once had a companion that exploded as a supernova. Previously released infrared data from NASA's now-retired Spitzer Space Telescope reveals a spectacular shock wave that was formed by matter blowing away from the star's surface and slamming into gas in its path. Data from Chandra shows a bubble of X-ray emission located around the star, produced by gas that has been heated by the effects of the shock wave to tens of millions of degrees. For more details see: https://chandra.si.edu/photo/2022/zetaoph/

Of note this week was the announcement on Jul 26 of the Cycle 24 Peer Review recommended programs. For details see: http://cxc.harvard.edu/target_lists/cycle24/index.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of DQ Tau, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Jul 15.
