Operations CXO Status Report

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Real-time procedures were executed on Apr 9 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer and to perform a diagnostic dump of the Control Processing Electronics (CPE). A third real-time procedure was executed on Apr 14 to disable power to an electrical bus that supplied a stuck-on Optical Bench Assembly (OBA) heater; this procedure will result in a decrease in OBA and Aspect Camera Assembly temperatures.

Chandra press and image releases were issued on Apr 14 describing the multiwavelength campaign that supported the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) during its 2017 observations of the supermassive black hole at the center of the M87 galaxy, at a distance of about 55 million light years from Earth. The NASA telescopes involved in this observing campaign included the Chandra X-ray Observatory, Hubble Space Telescope, Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory, the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR), and the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. Additionally, numerous ground-based observatories contributed data. These data, spanning the electromagnetic spectrum from radio waves to gamma rays, will be joined to gain insight into the black hole's properties and interpret the EHT image. The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of Terzan6, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Mar 31, and observations of NGC1365 coordinated with NuSTAR.
