Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 11 September 2020 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra science observations continued to be suspended while the team completed the activation and checkout of the High Resolution Camera (HRC) anti-coincidence shield using the HRC B-side electronics.

Real-time procedures were executed on Sep 8 to turn on high voltage power to the anti-coincidence shield of the HRC. The shield rates operating on B-side electronics are as expected and consistent with earlier values during A-side operation.

Additional real-time procedures were executed during each ground contact to reset the DSN Outage Dead Man Load.

With the HRC anti-coincidence shield again in service as primary autonomous radiation monitor for safing of the science instruments in the event of elevated space radiation levels, and with additional operational precautions in place, a Return to Science Readiness Review was held on Sep 10. Following successful review, science observations with the ACIS instrument are scheduled to begin on Sep 12.

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of FRB190520, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Aug 24, an observation of PSRJ1846-0258, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Aug 13, an observation of 2MASXJ01110461-4558, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Aug 24, and an observation of gx5-1 coordinated with NuSTAR and NICER.
