Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 12 April 2019 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Real-time procedures were executed on Apr 7 and Apr 10 to perform full-frame dark current readouts of the Aspect Camera Assembly CCD.

A Chandra image release was issued on Apr 10 discussing Chandra observations of M87 performed as part of the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) campaign which imaged the black hole at the center of this galaxy. Chandra has a much larger field of view than the EHT, so it can view the full length of the jet of high-energy particles launched by the intense gravitational and magnetic fields around the black hole. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2019/black_hole/

Of note this week, the Chandra X-ray Center announced the conference "20 Years of Chandra Science Symposium" to be held December 3-6, 2019 in Boston, MA, for details see: http://cxc.harvard.edu/symposium_2019/

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of WISEJ2344-3056, which is part of a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity series which was accepted on Nov 30, and an observation of AT2019ahk, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Apr 5 and is coordinated with ALMA and ATCA.
