Operations CXO Status Report

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Real-time procedures were carried out Feb 22 and Feb 23 to change the ACIS SI-Mode.

A Chandra photo release was issued on Feb 28 describing observations of superbubbles in NGC 3079. The observations provide evidence that they and structures like them may be the source of cosmic rays. NGC 3079's superbubbles are younger cousins of "Fermi bubbles," first located in the Milky Way galaxy in 2010. For details see:

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of LHS2686 coordinated with HST, an observation of GJ163 coordinated with HST, and an observation of 4U 1901+03, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Feb 14.
