Tennyson was wrong! The stars do change and they do die. And in death they do indeed leave scars on the sky, as evidenced by this picture of the expanding shock wave from the 1987 supernova explosion. This image is comprised of several superimposed images. It is one of the many images taken by David Malin, the world's foremost astrophotographer, at the Anglo-Australian Telescope.
