Chandra will help explain the structure of the universe and forecast our cosmic destiny. The observatory will further our understanding of the unending cycles of matter and energy and the ultimate limits of gravity and energy. It took 4 centuries from Galileo's telescope to the Hubble Space Telescope - an increase of 1/2 billion times in resolution. It has taken only 30 years from the 1st X-ray telescope to Chandra - an increase of 1 billion times in resolution.
