Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 8 November 2013 9.00am EDT

During the last week the observing schedule was replanned to incorporate observations of Nova Del 2013, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Nov 1. Loads for the replanned schedule were uplinked on Nov 7. A planned observation of Pictor A Jet was impacted and will be rescheduled in a future week.

A real-time procedure was executed on Nov 6 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer.

A flight software patch was uplinked on Nov 6 that removes the EPHIN E1300 channel from use and disables the EPHIN "aliveness" test in the on-board computer's particle radiation detection logic. The E1300 channel becomes less sensitive to particles and more subject to noise at the higher temperatures at which it is now operating and this patch eliminates the possibility of an unnecessary science instrument safing action due to noise on the channel. Associated with this patch, a real-time procedure was executed that disabled SCS 95, which would initiate the science instrument safing action if there were indications that the EPHIN unit had failed. Real-time procedures were executed on Nov 6-7 to dump OBC-A memory as a follow-up to the patch. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory image maintained on the ground.

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of SN 2013ej, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Sep 4, and an observation of SDSS J0147+0003 coordinated with the Hobby-Eberly Telescope.
