| During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.
Chandra passed through the fifth, sixth, and seventh eclipses of the fall season on Nov 12, 15, and 18 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance. A real-time procedure was completed on Nov 18 to update the on-board ephemeris. A Chandra press release was issued on Nov 15 as a NASA televised news conference. The release described observations of the remnant of SN 1979C, a supernova in the galaxy M100. The Chandra observations suggest that SN 1979C may be the youngest black hole in the so-called local Universe. If SN 1979C does indeed contain a black hole, it will give astronomers a chance to learn more about which stars make black holes and which create neutron stars.
