Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 30 October 2009 9.00am EDT

During the last week the observing schedule was re-planned to include an observation of the source XTE J1752-223 that was accepted as a Target Of Opportunity (TOO) and to include an observation of the source XTE J1810-197. A scheduled observation of Mkn421 was rescheduled for next week.

A real-time procedure was executed on Oct 27 to update the on-board ephemeris. A second real-time procedure was executed on Oct 27 to patch the flight software with updated MUPS firing parameters. The firing parameter update was planned pre-launch as a maintenance activity to compensate for the decrease in thruster impulse with fuel use. As an additional benefit the updated firing parameters are expected to decrease susceptibility to thermal choking in the thrusters. A third real-time procedure was executed on Oct 28-29 to dump OBC-A memory as a follow-up to the MUPS firing parameters patch. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory image maintained on the ground.

The Einstein Fellows Symposium (formerly Chandra Fellows Symposium) was held on Oct 27-28. Presentations were made by the 23 current Fellows, covering a wide range of topics in observational and theoretical astrophysics research.

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes a TOO observation of XTE J1752-223.
