Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 1 July 2004 8:30am EDT

During the last week the observing schedule was interrupted following a high radiation event at 3:05pm on on Jun 29 that stopped the daily load and activated the science instrument safing sequence (SCS 107). The event occurred just prior to radiation belt entry and was caused by electrons contaminating the EPHIN's lowest energy proton channel. The loads were re-planned and science was re-started at radiation belt exit on Jun 30. In order to maintain a safe EPHIN operating temperature, the originally scheduled targets NGC3132 and F1300-2556 were dropped in the re-plan and the target GX 17+2 was inserted. The dropped targets will be rescheduled in a future week.

During the week, two real-time procedures were completed associated with the SCS 107 execution: A real-time procedure was completed on June 29 to disable SCS 29, which was enabled by SCS 107 as a contingency. A real-time procedure was completed on June 30 to enable SCS 107 as a step in resuming the science mission.

Of note last week was the conduct of the Chandra User's Committee meeting on Jun 29-30.

The observing schedule for next week is shown below and includes coordinated observations of Sgr A* with VLT:
