Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 23 January 2004 8.30am EST

Last week the observing schedule was halted due to high radiation associated with solar flare activity. The loads were halted on Jan 21 at 6:51am EST through a ground command to execute the SI Safing SCS 107. This ensured that the accumulated radiation dose for ACIS remained below the allowed threshold. Loads were restarted at 3:21pm EST on Jan 22. Observations of M101, the Earth and MS30.7 (total 113 Ks) were impacted by the event.

The 2004 winter eclipse season began on Jan 18 and Chandra passed though eclipses on Jan 18 and 20 with nominal power and thermal performance. During the next week eclipses will occur on Jan 23, 26 and 28.

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of the Earth and an observation of Saturn coordinated with HST.
