Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 18 January 2008 9.00am EDT

During the last week the observing schedule was replanned to include a series of observations of SN 2007uy with ACIS-S. The source was accepted as a fast turn-around Target Of Opportunity (TOO) on Jan 14 and loads were replanned and uplinked on Jan 17. Observations of 3C381, S03, SDSS J1004+4231 and SDSS J102258.41+12 were impacted by the TOO and will be observed as part of a future schedule.

A Chandra press release was issued on Jan 9 describing observations of the nearby galaxy Centaurus A. The data provide one of the best views to date of the effects of an active supermassive black hole. For further details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/08_releases/press_010908.html

In a second press event on Jan 15 at the National Federation of the Blind, NASA unveiled a new book that brings majestic images taken by Chandra and the other Great Observatories to the fingertips of the blind. For further details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/08_releases/press_011508.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of the Crab Pulsar coordinated with ground observations.
