Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 6 October 2017 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Two flight software patches were uplinked on Oct 2. The first patch was to update the PCAD constants which affect the gyro bias vector when the PCAD software initializes. The second patch was to update the on-board gyro calibration misalignment matrix. Real-time procedures were executed on Oct 2-4 to dump OBC-A and OBC-B memory as a follow-up to the patches. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory image maintained on the ground.

A Chandra press release was issued on Oct 3 describing observations of five pairs of merging supermassive black holes. Though models predict such growing binary black holes, relatively few have been found. Both the X-ray data from Chandra and the infrared WISE observations suggest that the supermassive black holes are buried in large amounts of dust and gas. The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of R Aqr coordinated with HST.
