Operations CXO Status Report

Thursday 9/16/99 11:00am EST

During the last 24 hours the long (200Ks) observation of HR1099 continued as planned. The data contained in the first dump file has been processed and indicates that the observation is proceeding well. The spacecraft continued to operate nominally.

The observation will continue until radiation belt entry on the evening of 9/16 when a measurement of the internal calibration source will be made via real-time commanding with the ACIS. A measurement following radiation belt exit is also planned. These measurements will now be routinely included in the mission schedule.

Assessment of the ACIS energy resolution degradation continued and a diagnostic load schedule is under development for operation over the weekend to include operating the focal plane at -60 deg C.

Preparations for the first eclipse are complete and the team will monitor eclipse entry, passage and exit during a real-time pass on 9/16. The first eclipse will begin at 10:50PM 9/16 and last 14 min. The next eclipse will occur at 2PM 9/19 and last 51 min.
