Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 23 August 2002, 9am EDT

During the last week the observing schedule was interrupted following a high radiation event at 1:43pm EDT on Aug 18 that stopped the daily load and activated the science instrument safing sequence (SCS 107). All actions were nominal and radiation levels dropped sufficiently to allow the loads to be restarted at 3:48pm on Aug 19. A total of 93.9Ks of observing time was impacted by the event and the affected observations will be rescheduled in a later load.

A real-time procedure was completed successfully during the perigee passage on Aug 20 to check the bright Earth limb limitation with the aspect camera. This third test used a set of fainter stars and the initial assessment of the data shows the results to be consistent with the first two tests (limit of ~5 degrees).

The observing schedule for next week is shown below. The schedule includes a roll constrained observation of NGC 6334 and an observation of EM Cyg coordinated with the Hubble Space Telescope.
