Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 9/7/01 10.30am EDT

During the last week, Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A real-time procedure was completed on Sep 4 to turn off the B-side Solid State Recorder and return to operations with the A-side recorder. The switch had been made last week to avoid data loss following technical problems in receiving data from DSN. Approximately 3 hours of data thought lost was fully recovered after some good work by the OCC and JPL teams.

The 2 Years of Science with Chandra Symposium was held in Washington DC during Sept 5-7. The Symposium papers displayed a remarkable range of science enabled by the superb imaging and spectroscopic capabilities of Chandra.

A total of 8 press releases were made during the last week, including two press conferences with one televised. Details of the discoveries and images can be found at http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/. MSFC also announced on Sep 4 that NASA HQ has formally extended the Chandra mission from the baseline 5 year to a 10 year mission. An exciting week!

The schedule of observations for the coming week is shown below and includes an observation of Fairall 9 coordinated with RXTE.
