Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 8/31/01 5.30pm EDT

During the last week, Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through the remaining three eclipses of the Fall 2001 season with nominal power and thermal performance. One real-time procedure was completed to switch to the B-side Solid State Recorder (SSR-B) to minimize data loss following a technical problem in receiving dump data. A K-constant patch is being developed to recover further data from SSR-A.

Of note next week is the Two Years of Science with Chandra Symposium to be held in Washington DC during September 5-7. Topics will cover a broad range of Chandra science and include a presentation by NASA's Associate Administrator for Space Science, Ed Weiler, on Future NASA and Astronomy Missions. Two press conferences are planned during the Symposium including one that will be broadcast on NASA TV at 4pm EDT on Wednesday September 5.

The schedule of observations for the coming week is shown below.
