Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 4/27/01 11.30pm EDT

Last week the loads were replanned due to a transition to normal Sun mode on Apr 19 at 8:31pm EDT. The transition was caused by a bright Earth constraint violation resulting from a maneuver attitude in the load uplinked to observe the Target Of Opportunity on Apr 21. Following assessment and identification of the cause of the transition, recovery to normal pointing mode was completed on Apr 22 and loads were resumed at 12:20am on Apr 23 with the TOO target. The sequence leading to the transition to normal sun mode has been understood and a change will be made to the mission planning process for an interrupt to an active load as a result.

A real-time procedure was completed on Apr 23 to re-enabling the reaction wheel bias as part of the recovery from Normal Sun Mode.

Of note last week was the approval by the Flight Director Board of a flight software patch to allow autonomous operation of both gratings from the daily load. The patch is scheduled for uplink and test on May 1 following Level 2 approval.

The planned observations for the coming week are shown below and include a second observation of the Target Of Opportunity SGR 1900+14 on Apr 30.
