Operations CXO Status Report

Last week the observing schedule was halted due to high radiation associated with solar flare activity. The loads stopped at 8:27pm EDT on Apr 15 due to an autonomous trip of the radiation monitor and nominal execution of the SI Safing SCS 107. The on-board loads were rebuilt and restarted at 12.00am on 17 Apr once radiation levels had decreased to acceptable levels. Observations of the impacted targets will be rescheduled.
Loads were rebuilt and uplinked a second time during the week to allow an observation of the soft gamma-ray repeater SGR 1900+14 as a Target Of Opportunity on Apr 21. The observation was accepted as a TOO following a huge flare from the object detected by the BeppoSax mission on Apr 19.
Of note last week was the MSFC Independent Annual Review for Chandra held at the OCC during Apr 18-19. The preliminary findings of the IAR were provided to the Chandra team and indicated no major areas of concern. The formal report and recommendations are expected to be presented to the MSFC PMC in May.
The planned observations for the coming week are shown below and include two time constrained observations of SMC X-1 coordinated with the Hubble Space Telescope.
