Operations CXO Status Report
Friday 4/13/01 12.30pm EDT
Last week the observing schedule was halted twice due to high radiation associated with solar flare activity. The loads were halted on April 8 at 12:40am EDT through a ground command to execute the SI Safing SCS 107. The projected orbital radiation dose was significantly higher than the threshold allowed for ACIS. The loads were rebuilt and resumed at 9.30am EDT on Apr 9 once the radiation levels had subsided to an acceptable level. Two observations of ISO NW #1 were impacted and will be rescheduled in a future load. The load was resumed in time for the ACIS/HETG observation of NGC 3516 coordinated with XMM, RXTE, and BeppoSAX.
The loads were halted a second time at 10:51pm EDT on Apr 11 due to an autonomous trip of the radiation monitor and execution of SCS 107. The on-board loads were rebuilt and restarted at 3:16am EDT on Apr 13 once radiation levels had decreased and in time for the ACIS-S/HETG observation of Mkn 509 coordinated with the Hubble Space Telescope.
Other real-time activities last week included a procedure on Apr 7 to retract the LETG grating and the uplink of a maneuver-only load on Apr 4 to ensure an acceptable attitude though perigee following the radiation event of Apr 2.
Sol willing, the planned observations for the coming week are shown below and include an observation of V603 Aquilae coordinated with
RXTE.
