Operations CXO Status Report
Friday 1/5/01 11.00am EST
Happy New Year from the Chandra Team!
During the last two weeks, Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned, no spacecraft or ground system problems were experienced and no real-time procedures were required. The well behaved nature of the Sun was also welcome during this period.
Other items of note include the release on December 28 of the third Chandra NRA with a proposal deadline of March 15, and the completion of preparations for the Jan 8-11 American Astronomical Society (AAS) meeting, where three Chandra press releases are expected.
The planned observations for the coming week are shown below and involve some careful mission planning. The observations include two LETG observations of Venus, a series of five comet observations spaced approximately 1 day apart and a coordinated observation with the Hubble Space Telescope of the Crab Nebulas on January 8. Real-time procedures are scheduled for 6.20am EST on Jan 10 and 10.30am EST on Jan 12 to insert and retract the LETG.
