Content Knowledge
Describe the changing nature of the universe, including violent and catastrophic activity
Student attempts to provide an overview of the constantly changing universe and may include at least one example of a violent/catastrophic event with or without graphics that may not clearly support the description. Description is unclear and/or missing important information and/or contains major errors. Student provides a partial overview of the constantly changing universe and provides at least one example of a violent/catastrophic event and includes at least one supporting graphic. There may be minor flaws. Student provides an accurate and clear overview of the constantly changing universe and provides two examples of violent/catastrophic events and includes 2 supporting graphics. Student provides an accurate, thorough and detailed overview of the constantly changing universe and provides 2 or more examples of violent/catastrophic events with rich and vivid detail, and includes more than 2 supporting graphics. Sophisticated concepts are addressed and described with clarity
Content Knowledge
Describe a cosmic object or event
Student attempts to provide a description of a particular cosmic object or event and may include graphics. Major errors or gaps may be evident or the event or object selected may not match the topic of the program. Student provides a partial description of a particular cosmic object or event and includes at least 2 supporting graphics. There may be minor errors. Student provides an accurate and complete description of a particular cosmic object or event and includes 3 supporting graphics. Student provides an accurate, and thorough description, with rich and vivid detail, of a particular cosmic object or event. Description shows sophisticated understanding and includes more than 3 supporting graphics.
Understandings of Inquiry
Describe technology scientists use to collect data about the universe.
Student attempts to describe the technology used to study the universe or the type of data generated. There may be major gaps and/or flaws. Student partially describes the technology used to study the universe and the type of data generated. There may be minor flaws. Student accurately and completely describes the technology used to study the universe and the type of data generated. Student thoroughly and accurately describes, in detail, the technology used to study the universe and the type of data generated. Student shows a sophisticated understanding of the technology and the data collected.
Communication
Communicate scientific information accurately and effectively.
Student attempts to communicate the importance and/or impact of scientific and/or technological developments. Terminology is difficult to understand, inappropriate, and/or communication is generally not comprehensible to the general public. Student partially communicates the importance and/or impact of scientific and/or technological developments. Some scientific terminology is used that may be difficult for the public to understand and/or some communication is vague and/or unclear to the general public. Student communicates the importance and impact of scientific and technological developments, with appropriate language and in a way that is generally comprehensible to the general public. Student accurately communicates the importance and impact of scientific and technological developments, with appropriate language and in a way that is highly comprehensible to the general public.
