All Systems Were "Go" For Y2K

January 6, 2000 ::

NASA's Y2K command center reported no major incidents during the transition to the new year. All systems were "go." NASA remained in contact with spacecraft during the weekend and only minor glitches were found in non-critical software. Over the next few days, NASA will continue to monitor its infrastructure and business systems. Some 150 NASA employees and contractors worked throughout the holiday weekend around the world to monitor systems and repair any glitches.

"The NASA Y2K team should take pride in what has been a truly extraordinary accomplishment," said NASA Chief Information Officer Lee Holcomb, who oversaw the Agency's Y2K effort. "As of today, NASA has transitioned successfully to the Year 2000 with no significant problems. The few minor anomalies that arose were easily fixed and we have closed them all out."

The Chandra X-ray Observatory and ground system passed through Y2K (both GMT and EST) without mishap and all systems are functioning as expected. Contacts with the spacecraft have been completed since the new year (GMT). Data from the first contact has been received at the OCC and no problems are evident. Staff were on hand for both GMT and EST roll overs and performed a series of ground system checks to verify all systems were working properly. One system required resetting after the GMT roll-over and is now running as expected. Scheduled ground contact has been maintained without interruption.

All spacecraft systems continued to operate nominally!

Happy New Year from the Chandra Team!
